Burn permits
The practice of open burning is regulated in California for two important reasons: 1. Uncontrolled fires are dangerous and expensive. 2. Smoke from fires interferes with the State's concerted effort to reduce air pollution. Therefore, open burning in San Diego County is closely regulated by the Air pollution Control District and Fire Agencies. However, both agencies want to help you obtain a permit when you are clearing flammable vegetation from around your home. Burn permits are not allowed for general trash burning, manmade materials, or small amounts that could easily be hauled away. To see if you qualify for a permit stop by your nearest fire station. Firefighters will explain the rules and will ask you to fill out the permit. A fire engine will stop by your home and inspect the burn location for proper clearance around the pile, at that time firefighters will explain the procedure prior to burning. There is no cost for the inspection!! |
